The
Greater Cleveland International Lawyers Group (GCILG) has presented luncheon
seminars since 1974 to keep greater Cleveland business community, its members
and law students current on the legal aspects of doing
business in foreign countries. These seminars occur once each month between
September and June at the Cleveland City Club, 850 Euclid Avenue in downtown
Cleveland.
The membership of this group includes practitioners in the area of international
and transnational commercial, corporate and intellectual property law. Members
come from major firms in and around Cleveland, in-house corporate and general
counsel, mid-size firms and solo practices.
We have recently heard the prepared remarks of practitioners from the European
Community, China, Brazil, Canada and Mexico, among others; as well as U.S.
attorneys recognized in the areas of international arbitration, U.S. foreign
trade controls, immigration, WTO, NAFTA, anti-trust and E-Commerce. Other topics
have included the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and international joint
ventures.
The luncheon charge for
Members is $15.00. Non-Members pay $25.00. Students pay a reduced luncheon fee of $10.00.
Once or twice each year, a slightly more formal presentation is provided where
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours can be earned.
It is not possible to get the wealth of information presented at these luncheons from textbooks, Lexis or law review articles. The organization will satisfy your intellectual curiosity about foreign legal practices and will provide you with a forum for meeting people who share common interests and concerns. Membership presently costs only $50.00 each year.
